I fondly call her “Nerodia” but the title of the piece is Endless Forms Most Beautiful, a line taken from Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species.” “Nerodia” is part of her scientific name: Nerodia fasciata confluens, commonly called “broad-banded watersnake.” And, of course, I have no idea if Nerodia is a he or a she. Nerodia is currently in her third show! This one is an online show called “Diversia: Life.” That show title is a link, so click on it and go to the second page of artworks to find her, and me. This is my second show with this…

Denver Outdoors
A first… and so much fun to announce! The Colorado Photographic Arts Center has put together an outdoor exhibition on the theme “Reimagining Hope”–a response to the difficult year 2020. The selected images will be digitally projected on the Daniels & Fisher Tower at 1601 Arapahoe St. in Denver, March 1-13, 2021, every evening from 6 until 11 p.m. I want you to know that I titled this image From Which Hope Springs before I learned about this exhibition opportunity! One of my coping strategies for 2020 was solitary walks in natural areas looking for new ways to see and…
Two in Kansas City
Between my #AdventWord series and my #YearInReview, I posted almost every day for over a month. Those were both fun series to do, but caused me to fall behind in posting other news The Jones Gallery in Kansas City has become a reliable venue for my art. David Jones and his staff put up a new Group Show for every month of the year. I applied to the January 2021 show, and two of my works were invited. The title Grass Electric comes from the work of one of my favorite poets. As I worked on this shot on my…
East and West
In the past few days, two shows opened making it possible for me to brag that, right now, I have artworks spread across over 2000 miles of the U.S. Fun fact, right? So… while I’m in brag mode… “I Sing of Myself” is a pretty cheeky title, no? I made this photo at Black Bayou Lake NWR on an overcast, drizzly day. The water was disturbed only by raindrops hitting the surface. Bright green grass banished gloom. Back at my computer, Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself” popped into mind. Love leaves of grass (pun intended)! “I Sing of Myself” is…
Go Small for Fall
And there’s a reason! Fall is the time for small works because the giving season is upon us. Small works can be sold for relatively small prices, thus many arts venues feature a small works show. Last week I shipped four artworks in a 24-hour period. The one I wrote about last week went to a show in Texas. The other three are all on the way to the “Fall Small Works” show at the Kansas City Stockyards Gallery in Kansas City, Mo. So… a pretty cheeky title, right? It was, in fact, a drizzly, overcast day. Another hurricane–Zeta, I…
