March: Jones Gallery

The Jones Gallery in the arts district of Kansas City, MO, has two of my pieces in their March Group Show. I am always pleased to be invited and, with the help of the chorona virus vaccine, hope to go up to a “First Friday” opening soon. Maybe June? We’ll see. A few years ago when I got serious about photography again after a rather lengthy hiatus, I took lots of photographs with my iPhone. Lately I’ve done very little of that, but I don’t carry my “good camera” nearly all of the time. When I am burdened with a…

“Nerodia” Online

I fondly call her “Nerodia” but the title of the piece is Endless Forms Most Beautiful, a line taken from Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species.” “Nerodia” is part of her scientific name: Nerodia fasciata confluens, commonly called “broad-banded watersnake.” And, of course, I have no idea if Nerodia is a he or a she. Nerodia is currently in her third show! This one is an online show called “Diversia: Life.” That show title is a link, so click on it and go to the second page of artworks to find her, and me. This is my second show with this…

Denver Outdoors

A first… and so much fun to announce! The Colorado Photographic Arts Center has put together an outdoor exhibition on the theme “Reimagining Hope”–a response to the difficult year 2020. The selected images will be digitally projected on the Daniels & Fisher Tower at 1601 Arapahoe St. in Denver, March 1-13, 2021, every evening from 6 until 11 p.m. I want you to know that I titled this image From Which Hope Springs before I learned about this exhibition opportunity! One of my coping strategies for 2020 was solitary walks in natural areas looking for new ways to see and…

Two in Kansas City

Between my #AdventWord series and my #YearInReview, I posted almost every day for over a month. Those were both fun series to do, but caused me to fall behind in posting other news The Jones Gallery in Kansas City has become a reliable venue for my art. David Jones and his staff put up a new Group Show for every month of the year. I applied to the January 2021 show, and two of my works were invited. The title Grass Electric comes from the work of one of my favorite poets. As I worked on this shot on my…

December: Dauphin Island

Wow! I am still in awe. Due to the charity of dear friends, I was able to spend 5 days in December in their second home on Dauphin Island. And I am still in awe. Dauphin Island is the barrier island that helps form Mobile Bay. About 6 1/2 miles of the island are settled and constitute the town, another 6-8 miles are still in their pristine, wild state, and the town area is dotted with lovely little natural areas. The only one I was not able to visit was the Audubon Bird Sanctuary; it was closed due to hurricane…
