Another Good One

Having posted last week about my first success with being invited to Art Melt, Louisiana’s largest juried show for Louisiana artists, it occurred to me that I should feature my second invitation as well. It happened in 2015, two years after the first invitation. I did apply in 2014 but was not invited. One of the best aspects of the 2015 invitation was that my photographer friend, Irene Kato of Baton Rouge, was also invited. Here she is standing in front of her piece, which SOLD! Way to go, Irene! My piece was a study of the substructure of a…

A Milestone Image

So… today I was on radio to talk about the Holiday Art Crawl in Ruston, La. The show host, Rick Godley, surprised me by asking if a particular photograph, of all the thousands I have made, stood out as a favorite. Delta Dragon is the first one that popped into my head. Yes, I have, in fact, made many photographs that are–at least to me–memorable. But Delta Dragon does stand out. I still like it, a lot. I still think it is the best shot I could have made of that particular scene at that time and in that place….

Holiday Art Crawl

We have a new schedule this year! The North Central Louisiana Arts Council–NCLAC, pronounced “Nick-Lack”–has made some changes to its holiday arts celebration and fair in downtown Ruston, La. But first things first: I will be there, as I was last year. This year, I have been assigned to be one of several artists to make our work and wares available at Ruston Artisans, a beautiful new gallery at 203 W. Alabama St. in Ruston.re Last year the Holiday Art Crawl (formerly called the Holiday Arts Tour) was scheduled a Friday night and Saturday. This year we will be open…

Almost missed!

I’m not much of a morning person. Nightowl, actually. But I spent this past weekend in Chicago and environs, and my hotel in Evanston was just four blocks from Lake Michigan. Really? How often are you this close to a sunrise over a magnificent lake? Surely you can get up, bundle up, and do it this once! And I did. Sunday, Oct. 21. I got there as the sky was beginning to lighten–enough to see that a huge dark cloud bank hung low in the eastern sky. Oh, well, I’m here. I’m not going back without shooting! And I have…

Puzzled? Read on!

In my earlier post about puzzles, I mentioned that I will have four designs of Limited Edition puzzles for sale at tomorrow’s Brew on the Bridge. That’s Oct. 13, 11 – 2, on the Endom Bridge between Monroe and West Monroe. The third design is another from my “creation photography” collection. The subject is a Gulf Fritillary (Agraulis vanillae) butterfly, and the fact that they are common in Louisiana does not diminish their beauty at all! In this puzzle image, the butterfly is perched on a purple flower with light glowing through is gorgeously marked wings.   The fourth design…
