This show is positively made for me! And I am extremely pleased to have two images in the show. But before I go a word further, I must warn my friend Lauri Bauer Novak, and any other snake-phobic friends I might have, that there’s a picture of a snake at the very end of this post! Contrary to what many might assume, dead and dying plants can be quite beautiful. “Peach Champagne III” results from a late autumn stop at a small cleared space surrounded by woods near Farmerville, La. I was struck by how the afternoon sun produced shades…
Two New @ Jones Gallery
I have fallen behind on sharing my good news! As I write, two brand new pieces hang in the August Group Show at Jones Gallery in the arts district in Kansas City, MO. “Evil Eye” is from my 2019 trip to Costa Rica. It is another close-up abstraction from my somewhat extensive exploration of a huge root ball, weathered smooth and silvery and deposited by the Pacific Ocean on Cabo Beach (Cape Beach) of the Osa Peninsula. I have gotten a lot of “mileage” out of that root ball! This is the second abstract image of it that has been…
For Ken
Ken Yerro Ilio was an excellent and passionate photographer, a teacher and a friend. I got news this morning that he has died. He will be missed. Ken was one of the photographers I hang out with when I go to Chicago. He was a regular participant in our “Dink & Click©” photowalks. He was kind, generous with his knowledge, fun to be with, and indefatigable. I know he walked me into the ground more than once. On one of our long jaunts throughout the city of Chicago, we stopped somewhere for a drink and a bite, and Ken told…
On the road again…
Not me, sorry to say. I’m being good and staying home. But one of my all-time favorite pieces, Red Flags Over Atlanta, will soon be on the road again, this time to New Bern, North Carolina to the 2020 Bank of the Arts National Juried Show. The Craven Arts Council of New Bern owns an historic, turn of the century former bank building, hence the name “Bank of the Arts.” I would love to see this piece featuring a contemporary high rise construction site in that setting, but… not likely to happen in this time of pandemic. An interesting facet…
Two to Colorado
Lots of art exhibits got canceled this spring! Big surprise to no one, I’m sure. But things are picking up again, and I am especially happy when a gallery that is taking every precaution in the world invites my work. These pieces go to venues with strict guidelines in place for doing an art exhibit in the time of pandemic. So… for the second time, Double Arpeggio will soon be on the road, this time to the 73rd Annual Gilpin County Arts Association 2020 Juried Art Show & Awards. The exhibit is scheduled August 1 through September 19, 2020, at…
