My local friends will recognize this title. “Off the Wall” is the annual fundraiser for one of Monroe, Louisiana’s treasures: The Masur Museum. Not many cities this size can boast of their own fine art museum. “Off the Wall” is this weekend and I have donated three pieces to the virtual art auction. Bidding opened at 9 a.m. today and closes at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 1. Go here to see the artworks and place your bid. I chose to offer three pieces with a local flavor. Louisville Avenue Bridge was shot from my kayak while I was participating in…

Camera Camp
The kids took some good photos. We all had fun. I’m going to do it again! My first ever “Camera Camp” offering ended last week. This Camera Camp was kind of a private affair, offered only to 6th through 9th graders of Grace Episcopal Church and School. The next one will be run through Ruston Artisans Gallery and Co-op at 203 W. Alabama Ave. in Ruston. It begins July 20 and runs through August 5. We will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 – 11:30 at the gallery. Each of the kids who came to Camera Camp showed commitment and skill,…
Local!
Are you tired of hearing that everything is different this year? Yeah, me too. And of having to say it. But it is, and Ruston is doing a Peach Fest that reflects that. Go here to learn more about this year’s scaled-back festival. I’m going to focus on the art exhibit, organized by North Central Louisiana Arts Council, a dynamic group that schedules great activities in Ruston year-round. As a member, I got invited to the show. To avoid people crowding into a single space to see what is typically a large show, the artworks are scattered out around town…
Art Flow, Part 3
Well, that took awhile! How can I be so busy, given that I am supposedly retired?! However it happened, this is finally the third and last installment of my posts about my four pieces invited to Art Flow 2019 in Baton Rouge. (See Art Flow 1 and Art Flow 2 below. Often invitations to juried exhibits include a requirement that the pieces submitted have been completed in the preceeding two years. This particular call to submit did not, which made it possible for me to submit a piece I like very much but completed in 2012 when I was working…
Art Flow, Part 2
So… I just finished framing the 3rd and 4th images to be delivered tomorrow to Art Flow in Baton Rouge. I am particularly excited that “Take Flight” was invited to this show. I have been photographing construction sites for a long time, but it has seemed that no one else sees what I see in them. And what do I see? #HardHatArt #PerformanceArt I have the utmost regard for hard hats. I mean, look at that maze. That dense, intricate web of pieces. Regardless of how detailed the drawings, how they keep track of what they’re doing, how they know…
