Peach Art

The annual Peach Festival in Ruston always includes an art show, and although the festival is over, the art show will be up until the 28th of July. It’s hanging in the Chatauqua Gallery in the Lincoln Parish Library, conveniently located just south of I-20 at Exit 85.

Dune Jazz

Dune Jazz is one of my pieces in the show, and one of my all-time favorites. It took me awhile to get the contrast right. White sand can be tricky! Converting the image to black and white was kind of a no-brainer. It was the curve of that dune fence leading to spikes of dormant grass in a sea of white sand that drew the eye.

Champagne Toast

On the other hand, Champagne Toast is all about color! I tell people who think Louisiana has no worthwhile fall color that it is just more subtle here and you must look for it. This confection of luscious colors was in a patch of weeds somewhere between Monroe and Farmerville. I doubt I could find it again, but I sure enjoyed walking around in it one autumn day a few years ago.

I was out of town the night of the opening, so I haven’t seen this year’s Peach Art show yet myself. But it is always a fun show of local art by artists of all ages. I will definitely make the jaunt to Ruston to see it before the end of the month.

BTW, folks, I am working on building up my blog’s following so as to impress a potential publisher of the Creation Considered book I am working on. If you are inclined to share this post to your own Facbook page, I’d be grateful.

  1. Love these photos, Bette! Have you considered Substack? It’s got a Twitter-like sub-system so it’s easy to get started there without necessarily doing a “publication” (which I didn’t realise until too late). It’s a very enjoyable community there. Best ~Liz

  2. Thanks for the suggestion, Liz. I have not looked at Substack because I cannot image making time for yet another site to keep up with! My WordPress blog is associated with my website, so I do not feel I can abandon it. It’s a dilemma!

    1. You might be imagining it as more time-taking than it really would be? It could complement your website (e.g. a direct link from your Substack a/c to your website and vice versa). I’m not sure whether you can look at my Profile without a Substack login but here’s a link anyway. You can readily share things on Substack just from the basic profile – into their Twitter-like part (it’s less constrained than Twitter/X). You can also make a site (they call it a “publication”) which I’ve done at Erstwhile Evangelical (for comparison). Both my Profile and my Publication link to my blog. And there’s no charge to set up.
