Kiss Before Dying

Life and death, two moments in the sacred ongoingness. And they redeem each other, over and over again. Something dies and makes way for something new to be born. Something new is born and conquers death for a time. And on and on.

I feel like I should try to explain that, but I don’t think I can. Other than to say I have come to see this way by observing and absorbing the sacredness of creation.

  1. This photo is really striking, Bette! The bright colours and patterns, the contrast between light and dark. And I love your associated reflection. Where did you capture this?

  2. Thanks, Liz. I have a friend in southwest Louisiana who plants lots of these flowers. I think they are called “Mexican Sunflower,” but they’re related to the zinnias. They are excellent butterfly attractors! So I try to get down there late summer just to spend some time photographing the butterflies. It interests me that the butterflies don’t mind that the flower is dying! Good to the last drop, I guess.

    1. If you’d be pleased for me to do it, I’d be very happy to post this (butterfly) photo on my blog for my followers to enjoy (and probably comment on). I’d present it however you like – it would be nice to include the extra info that you gave in your reply to me, and I’d share your reflection on it i.e. if you’d like for me to do that. Also as you’d expect I’d give links to your blog home and the blog-post itself. If you’d like that to happen then just reply to let me know (and what you’d like me to include with it as per my Q’s above). And if I don’t see a reply that’s fine too – I’ll assume it’s not what you want. I think it’s a stunning photo!

      1. Liz, by all means do! That’s a lovely offer. I do what I do to share with people. Just put it together as it works best.
