Wild for Wildlife

Most of the time, I submit 3 images to juried shows, hoping for one to be invited. Additional images, when allowed, are often expensive to submit. Thus it was fun to be able to submit 6 images to KBM Gallery’s “Wild for Wildlife” online exhibition, and even more fun to have 3 of them invited into the show!

Angel of Death (Osprey)

You have seen Angel of Death (Osprey) before. It has been in several shows and won a “Best Photograph” in a multi-media show in Denver a couple of years ago. So it was not a big surprise when it got selected for “Wild for Wildlife.”

Endless Forms Most Beautiful*

You have also seen Endless Forms Most Beautiful before. It too has been in several shows. It is a fine photo, given that snakes don’t necessarily pose against nice backgrounds (a muddy stream bed) and, in the case of a Broad-banded Water Snake (Nerodia fasciata confluens), one must deal with reflections off water. But I truly think part of the reason it has been in 5 or 6 shows is because it is probably the only snake photo submitted most of the time!

Life & Death Are One

On the other hand, Life & Death Are One being invited was a pleasant surprise. It is a photograph of a Green Lynx (Peucetia viridans) with the Gulf Fritillary (Agraulis vanillae) it has killed and begun to consume. I have submitted it before but such photos of the harsher side of nature seem to be less popular. For me, the stories of how species live and die and survive together is a big part of the beauty.

KBM Gallery is an online gallery. Wild for Wildlife is ready to view. The artworks are grouped so you will need to scroll through several pages of paintings, drawings, and the like to get to the photography. Don’t be dismayed. It’s a beautiful show.
