Online art shows have taken the art world by storm!

Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA, always has both brick & mortar and online versions of their shows. Turn on Your Heart Light is my contribution to their current “50 or Older” show, and that show title is about the age of the artists featured, not the art works! The show is available online here through the entire month of August. (My piece is on page 12 of the online gallery.)

The landscape in this photo is a quarry along Highway 165 south of Monroe that was bulldozed into existence to get landfill for widening 165 to four lanes. I have made hundreds of photos there, fewer in recent years, but I continue to be drawn by the haunting beauty of Earth restoring itself after devastating injury.

Palm Psalm has been in several shows, and currently can be seen in “Curves 2023,” a show by Biafarin, an artists’ management platform that does only online shows. The exhibit runs through September 10 and can be viewed here.

Online shows save artists money because the artworks do not have to be shipped, and it is the artist who pays for shipping, both to and from the show venue. At the same time, I do not find looking at thumbnails of artworks on a computer screen very satisfying. Yes, you can always click on the thumbnail and see a bigger version, but…. I find all that clicking rather tedious. Most of all, I miss the… what? gravitas? of standing in front of art. At the same time, you can see lots of art around the world without leaving your recliner!
