Well, darn!

So, I came to Denver for an art show opening reception tonight, but here I am in my hotel room on my computer instead! It’s been snowing off and on ever since I arrived, and the opening reception has been postponed until tomorrow night. Sadly, I’ll be back home by then. Well…, that might take a bit of luck, but… that’s where I’m supposed to be tomorrow night! Nevertheless, it’s been a mostly good trip. Yesterday I enjoyed walking in the snow about three-quarters of a mile to D’art Gallery in the downtown arts district. It’s a co-op gallery and…

Something Old, Something New

Well, not that old! But Red Flags over Atlanta has been around since 2018 and has been in quite a few shows. If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know I love construction sites, and this is one of my first successful #HardHatArt #PerformanceArt images. I call them that out of great regard for the hard hats who stare at blueprints and wiring and plumbing diagrams and miraculously produce beautiful, functional buildings. It is an amazing feat. Visually, I am fascinated by the highly transitory patterns, textures and colors that change daily as the hard hats work. That…

“Blend” is almost here!

Local friends, here’s your opportunity to get your “Bette Kauffman original” and help out a good cause in the process! Now, who can resist that? “Blend on the Bayou” is the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council’s annual fundraiser. This year I have put four pieces on the silent auction. Scouts Clean Up Black Bayou Lake is one of them. The scene is a scout troupe paddling out onto the lake to participate in one of Ouachita Green’s “water clean-up” days by picking trash out of our lakes, bayous and river. Thanks, scouts! This pigment print, framed 20×16 in a black wood…

A Chapter of a Book, Maybe

A few months ago, I asked the readers of this blog whether I should post some chapters here of the book I’m writing. You see, after writing a number of chapters quickly and feeling good about them, I hit the proverbial wall–not writer’s block so much as writer’s fear. What if no one wants to read this book? But in the firm belief that nothing ventured, nothing gained, here goes. Honest feedback highly valued! And be forewarned: Since this is a chapter in a book, it will be longer than the usual blog post. After Death, A Voice After death,a…

November: Chicago

It’s a good month to go to Chicago: not yet so dreadfully cold as to keep me indoors, and hotel prices have gone down! November 26, 2022 – Downtown Chicago decks out for Christmas. One thing you can always count on is a huge Christmas tree in Water Tower Square. Adam, one of the photog friends I hang out with in Chicago, polished this big silver ball with his sleeve before we took our selfies. Sadly, I didn’t quite manage to get our reflections in focus, but I really like the photo anyway. That’s the Water Tower behind us, a…
