The Human Element

You might not have noticed, but I photograph people, too! It’s not that I don’t enjoy photographing people. It is that I’m a bit shy about it, plus always concerned about being a nuisance. So it always helps when hard hats notice me lurking around a construction site with my camera and spontaneously strike a pose for me! That’s how Say “Cheese?” happened. On a cold day in St. Louis, Mo., these guys were high over my head–I’m guessing 6-8 stories up–when I caught their eyes. I held up the camera, they posed, and I got one delightful shot. On…

All New

The theme of the show is “New Beginnings” and it is the first show of a new online photography venue called World Photo Club. Of course, I applied! Two of my examples of “new beginnings” were accepted for the show. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know I love details and this show gave me an opportunity to show off detail shots. Pawpaw leaves actually get quite big, but these brand new barely unfurled leaves at the end of a twig really caught my eye. You might say they “signaled” spring, new growth, lovely blossoms, and delicious fruit…

Two Online

Online art shows have taken the art world by storm! Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA, always has both brick & mortar and online versions of their shows. Turn on Your Heart Light is my contribution to their current “50 or Older” show, and that show title is about the age of the artists featured, not the art works! The show is available online here through the entire month of August. (My piece is on page 12 of the online gallery.) The landscape in this photo is a quarry along Highway 165 south of Monroe that was bulldozed into…

Sometimes…

…you just gotta go! June 27 I’m heading to Jamestown, NY, for the opening reception of an art exhibit at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. The show is called “Art That Matters to the Planet 2023: Interconnectivity,” and it includes my piece, Ghost Dancers. I routinely have artworks in shows around the country and I rarely go to opening receptions. It’s just too time-consuming and expensive. So why is this one a “gotta go”? Well, first there’s the theme. “Art that matters to the planet” is certainly what I aspire to! The subtheme, “Interconnectivity” also resonates, being defined in the…

The Blues

But not the sad kind! My two “blues” are very happy to be headed to Bethlehem, Pa. to be in a show with the theme “Everything Blue” at MVA Gallery. Color-themed shows are fun. Going through my folders of images to consider, I discovered that I have quite a few that feature lots of blue–not surprising given how much time I spend outdoors. Indeed, Mirage owes it’s overall blue tone to a blue, blue sky, which functions a lot like putting a blue filter on your camera when shooting at something in the distance. The houses at the most western…
