It’s one of my favorite pieces. Why? Well, in part because it reminds me of my life journey. Growing up in Iowa, this kind of fence was a common site.., but it was holding snow instead of white sand! It lined the highways for miles, so that when wind hit the fence, it slowed down and dropped its burden of snow at the fence instead of on the highway. Imagine my delight upon moving to the south, visiting the Gulf Coast, and discovering that “drift fence” also makes perfectly good “dune fence”! Those connections that span decades and tie different…

1 Show, 3 Images
For the first time ever, three of my works were invited into a single national show! “Alchemy of Light” is an online show hosted by an all-online gallery called Nuu Muse Contemporary, based in Dallas, Tx. Light is of course a foundational element of photography, but infinitely variable in how it interacts with the world. The three images I submitted and are in the show each presents a very different light challenge and each projects an equally different mood. I should get up early more often! First Light is day dawning over a fallow field. It happened only because I…
2 Shows End Soon
Running behind on blogging as usual! “Bellisima,” Italian for “very beautiful,” is an online show that closes June 28. It’s hosted by KBM Art Gallery, Riverside, CA. You can view it here. I have two works in the exhibit. This is the fourth show for both Peach Champagne II and Âme du Bayou. Many thanks to the KBM Art Gallery jurors for including my work. Indiana University at Kokomo is currently hosting “Ethereal” in their brick and mortar gallery. Their call for art described the theme as a quality that possesses almost perfect or extremely delicate features that pertain to…
That’s a wrap…
A show I had two works in closed yesterday and I never got around to writing about it! Such is life. (Sigh.) “Whispering Colors” was a show theme that captured my attention, just as the muted, gentler tones of earth, sky and water often attract my camera. Consider, for example, sand, which both of the images invited into the show featured. The sand in the background of Things Unspoken is the rather typical tan color we associate with sand and expect to see when the word “sand” is used as a color name. If that soft turquoise in the upper…
Local: Happiness!
Another local event I enjoy participating in is the Mayor of West Monroe’s art show. Her name is Staci Albritton Mitchell and the lobby outside her office in city hall makes a great art gallery. Every year since elected she has hosted a year-long show in that space. This year’s theme is “Happiness,” and I am delighted to have been selected to participate. I didn’t have any trouble finding images to submit! What says happiness better than butterflies and wildflowers, my fave subjects? Dance of the Butterfly won first place in the “Artistic” category of Louisiana Master Naturalist Association’s 2022…
