It is especially fun and gratifying to offer local friends local opportunities to see my work on a gallery wall! Two such opportunities are coming up real soon. New @ Ruston Artisans

So today I learned a new word: “ambedo.” It means a kind of “trance” induced by focusing on “vivid sensory details,” said to be “soaking in the experience of being alive” and “done purely for its own sake.” Thanks to my friend Amy Ouchley for posting that on Facebook! I actually do it quite a lot, and although I take photographs of many of those details in which I become absorbed, the photography is kind of secondary to the experience of being captivated by those sensory details. Wings 2X

It is always gratifying and exciting to be accepted into a national juried art show. But then there are those shows one truly pines for. You submit your images, pay the fee, and wait with bated breath. And when that email comes with “invited” at the top… “Yippee!” whether anyone else is around to hear it or not. She has been fishing to feed her chick and is now resting for a moment to dry her feathers and groom. She didn’t need that fisherman’s dip net. She dives like a bullet and extracts her prey with those powerful talons. But don’t you wonder if the fisherman who left the dip net unattended ever figured out what happened to it?
