Catching up…

Some years start out slow. This one did. Then all of a sudden I have images in three shows and haven’t said a word bout it. So here goes. “World Untamed”–what a super show theme! Right up my alley, don’t you think? Marin Society of Artists is hosting the show in their Virtual Gallery from March 30 through May 30. You’ll be able to see the show here. Many thanks to juror Paul Kratter for selecting my work. Urban Osprey was a natural to submit to this show. The very civilized telephone poles in the background put in high relief…

A Chapter of a Book, Maybe

A few months ago, I asked the readers of this blog whether I should post some chapters here of the book I’m writing. You see, after writing a number of chapters quickly and feeling good about them, I hit the proverbial wall–not writer’s block so much as writer’s fear. What if no one wants to read this book? But in the firm belief that nothing ventured, nothing gained, here goes. Honest feedback highly valued! And be forewarned: Since this is a chapter in a book, it will be longer than the usual blog post. After Death, A Voice After death,a…

Wild for Wildlife

Most of the time, I submit 3 images to juried shows, hoping for one to be invited. Additional images, when allowed, are often expensive to submit. Thus it was fun to be able to submit 6 images to KBM Gallery’s “Wild for Wildlife” online exhibition, and even more fun to have 3 of them invited into the show! You have seen Angel of Death (Osprey) before. It has been in several shows and won a “Best Photograph” in a multi-media show in Denver a couple of years ago. So it was not a big surprise when it got selected for…

One More for 2023

My #YearInReview blog posts don’t necessarily feature my “best” photographs. Rather they feature photographs that help me track and tell the story of the year, month by month. I also like to make a PowerPoint of the photographs that went to juried art exhibits a given year. I call it “Invited _(year_” because that’s the language artshows use: You work is “invited” into a show. Does that make these my “best” photos? Well, not necessarily. It just makes them photos that drew the eye of an art-world juror–a person who selects artworks for exhibits as a profession. Interestingly, none of…

December: Birds & Blooms

I shoot lots of both! It’s a fitting way to end this special edition of #YearInReview, giving you a glimpse of my world for the past two years. December 9, 2022 – The older I get the more I prefer the dead and dying flowers. That’s not at all a morbid thought. Truly, it’s not. I love so much the shapes they take as the petals dry: twisted, crinkled, yet graceful. Their colors reach a peak of intensity. Their age spots dignify them. May I age so beautifully, eloquently. December 26, 2023 – Goal achieved: An American Kestrel (Falco sparvarius)…
