Well, darn!

So, I came to Denver for an art show opening reception tonight, but here I am in my hotel room on my computer instead! It’s been snowing off and on ever since I arrived, and the opening reception has been postponed until tomorrow night. Sadly, I’ll be back home by then. Well…, that might take a bit of luck, but… that’s where I’m supposed to be tomorrow night!

Nevertheless, it’s been a mostly good trip. Yesterday I enjoyed walking in the snow about three-quarters of a mile to D’art Gallery in the downtown arts district. It’s a co-op gallery and I’m a new satellite member. There I met Shane, gallery co-director, who had come in to meet a repairman, even though the gallery was closed due to the snow. He showed me around, told told me the gallery’s story, and allowed me to explore. Many thanks, Shane.

The show I especially came to see is called “Expanded Horizons.” It is the first exhibition featuring the gallery’s satellite members. Each artist was given 50 inches of space to fill as we saw fit. I selected a series of my botanical detail images that I often tag as #DetailsEarth and #EarthAbstracts (above). The gallery members did a great job installing them. It’s a lovely show and I feel I’m in good company.

After lunch at a sweet little Thai restaurant, I wandered the arts district and picked up a couple of trinkets at the several interesting, packed to the gills vintage/antiques and “stuff” shops. The sun had come out, the snow was melting. Here are a few of my fave shots for the day.

Today was windier, colder and wetter. I managed to walk about a mile, but it was exhausting walking in slush and keeping the camera dry while trying to shoot. By the time I got back to my hotel, I was too chilled and damp to even go back out for dinner. So here I am, eating ramen noodles from the hotel’s little “market,” disappointed that the bar is closed, and about to have a look at today’s “take.”

BTW, I’m going to call that scooter shot above “Proud Mary.” Don’t you think? Next time I come to Denver, I’m hoping for weather that will give me confidence to ride one. They’re all over here.
