Holiday gift giving is just around the corner and the annual crop of “small works” shows has begun. Maybe this will be the year you try a small, affordable piece of art for a holiday gift?

Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach, California, is the first to have one of my pieces this year in their online “small works, BIG TALENT” show. The show opens November 7, so I don’t have a link yet. I’ll post it on the Facebook page when it comes, but you can also always just search for the gallery online.
Seeing Eye to Eye happened a few years ago at a horse therapy stable in rural Texas, just across the state line from Sulphur, La. I was there with my campus ministry students doing service learning and I had a close encounter with this gentle giant. If you look carefully, you can see me wearing a blue jacket reflected in his eyeball. He had come over to be petted. It was a lovely, intimate moment.

Truth be told, most of my works are “small” by art world standards. I love working with squares and create a lot of pieces that are between 6×6 and 10×10 inches in a 12×12 frame with an outer dimension between 15 and 19 inches square. That seems to work well and draw people in to my details and intimate spaces, like these two pieces.
The Rountree Gallery in Platteville, Wisconsin is hosting “Teeny, Tiny, BOLD” as a face-to-face show. Red “S” is a new piece, yet to be printed and framed, and it will have to be on the smaller end of my usual range because Rountree put a 12×12 inch outer limit on submissions to the show. This show runs from November 24, 2024, until January 22, 2025, at the gallery, located at 120 W. Main St. in Platteville.
BTW, if anyone happens to know what kind of car wears this kind of “red S” emblem, please let me know! I’m embarrassed to say, although I greatly admired the lines and color of this sporty vehicle, I failed to take note of the make. Is that odd for a person who has to know the scientific name of all the plants and critters she photographs? I guess I appreciate cars in an entirely different way than I appreciate creation!
