Something Old, Something New

Well, not that old! But Red Flags over Atlanta has been around since 2018 and has been in quite a few shows.

Red Flags over Atlanta

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know I love construction sites, and this is one of my first successful #HardHatArt #PerformanceArt images. I call them that out of great regard for the hard hats who stare at blueprints and wiring and plumbing diagrams and miraculously produce beautiful, functional buildings. It is an amazing feat.

Visually, I am fascinated by the highly transitory patterns, textures and colors that change daily as the hard hats work. That building in Atlanta is long finished. This view of floors with no walls, textures of steel and concrete, and strings of red safety flags will never be seen again–except by looking at my photo! Love it.

The show is called “Show Off Your Art 2024.” It’s an online show hosted by KBM Art Gallery of Riverside, CA. You can view it here. The show will end August 30, 2024.

Color Me Jazz

Color Me Jazz began in November 2023 and is now in its first show. A few photog friends and I were walking about the loop in Chicago and we decided to visit the Kinzie Street Railroad Bridge. This bridge used to carry trains of supplies and materials to various plants and factories in the near north side of downtown Chicago. By 2001, all had moved out of the city and the bridge was permanently raised, then named a Chicago Landmark in 2007.

The background of rusting steel and aging concrete seemed a perfect foil for vibrant plant life and graffiti–a jazzy combination, if you ask me. Then there’s the contrast between fluid, organic life–both human and botanical–softening and enlivening the hard, angular structure. Much to please the eye!

The show is called “The Artist’s Eye.” It is an online show hosted by Marin Society of Artists, San Rafael, CA. You can view it here. It’s organized with the photography coming after paintings and drawings, so you must scroll a bit to get to my image. The show will end August 25, 2024.

Many thanks to juror Susan Snyder for selecting my work.
