“Dune Jazz” on a Roll

It’s one of my favorite pieces. Why? Well, in part because it reminds me of my life journey. Growing up in Iowa, this kind of fence was a common site.., but it was holding snow instead of white sand! It lined the highways for miles, so that when wind hit the fence, it slowed down and dropped its burden of snow at the fence instead of on the highway.

Dune Jazz

Imagine my delight upon moving to the south, visiting the Gulf Coast, and discovering that “drift fence” also makes perfectly good “dune fence”! Those connections that span decades and tie different parts of my life together make me smile.

Dune Jazz has been in shows before. Indeed, it won a 3rd Place ribbon in a show called “Far Country” at a gallery in Taylor, TX in 2020. Later, on the photo sharing platform “Viewbug” it received a “Legendary Award” and a “Top Photo” award from fellow photographers. In 2022, it was in shows in Kansas City and Rhode Island.

It is currently in a show called “Flow” sponsored by the online Naturalist Gallery of Contemporary Art. You can view it here along with two other pieces of mine–Legato and Venus’ Comet–also in that show. It’s a three-page show and my images are on page two. The show will end August 24.

This morning I packed the framed Dune Jazz print into an art box and shipped it off to MVA Gallery in Bethlehem, PA. The show is called “Photography Festival” and will be up until August 25. If you happen to be in Bethlehem, I hope you’ll stop by the MVA Gallery at 35 E. Elizabeth Ave., Suite 313.

I’ve mentioned before: One of the beauties of online shows is that your work can be in two places at once. At the same time, I’m always delighted to ship off my work. Viewing art online just does not, for me, pack the same wallop as experiencing the work firsthand. I would be the one sticking my nose in as close as decorum allows, also stepping back and checking out the side angle views!
