I have been going to this place for many years. Not so much lately. I have neglected it. My perpetual busy-ness sometimes crowds out the best things.

But back in October 2021, I was on my way home north on LA 165 after a challenging day that had left my spirit hanging by a thread. I got to this spot–an abandoned quarry just a few miles north of Pollock, La.–as the sun was declining in the sky. So I pulled off the road and got out with my camera. It worked its healing magic for me once again.
So it’s especially gratifying that this image, Home of the Wounded Healer VI, 2021, is currently in an online exhibit called “Tranquil & Thankful.” Fits, don’t you think?! The show is the work of KBM Art Gallery, an online gallery only, and can be viewed here.
The full story of this place I call the Home of the Wounded Healer is a chapter in the book I am currently writing: working title, Creation Considered: Creature Encounters of the 5th Kind. I am at the stage of writing when I know I should be sending chapters to publishers, etc., and I’m dragging my feet! Something about fear of rejection, I’m pretty sure! So… I’m considering publishing some chapters here first. Do you think that’s a good idea? Would you be inclined to read such a post?
Hi Bette! “Tranquil & Thankful.” is such a great name.. I really love it. I’d feel so honoured to be able to read some of your chapters, and you know how I feel about Louisiana – such a special place. So I’m all enthusiasm.. and like.. please do this asap dear friend! Would I be inclined? I’d dare anyone to try and stop me 😀
